Description
A decorative German porcelain collector's wall plate from Rosenthal, designed by the Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad for the Sindbad der Seefahrer series. The colourful scene depicts Sindbad and his companions sailing beneath a moonlit sky, set against a deep cobalt-blue ground with intricate gold-coloured detailing. A fitted hanger on the reverse allows the plate to be displayed on a wall. Measuring 16.5 cm in diameter.
Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006) was one of the most celebrated Scandinavian designers of the 20th century, and his collaborations with Rosenthal produced some of the most distinctive and collectible pieces in the German manufacturer's range. The printed inscription on the reverse names "Sindbad der Seefahrer", refers to his seven adventurous voyages, and bears Wiinblad's signature. It also displays the Rosenthal Germany backstamp and identifies the collector's programme as an unlimited edition. The piece is of vintage late 20th-century production. It is in very good condition throughout, with no chips or cracks.
