The underside bears the Gerold Porzellan Bavaria factory mark, the model number 6215 and a printed Germany origin mark, confirming that this piece was produced by Gerold Porzellan in Bavaria. The tree stump base and flowering branch, worked in a naturalistic style, provide a decorative setting for the pair of birds, whose glossy blue, yellow, green and black colouring is characteristic of Gerold Porzellan's mid twentieth century figurine output. Bavarian porcelain factories of this period produced numerous bird studies for the export and collectables market, and this model remains a good example of the genre's fine modelling and bright glaze work.
