Description

Nelson McCoy Pottery of Roseville, Ohio, was one of the most prolific and beloved American art pottery producers of the 20th century, and this Berries and Leaves vase, with its sandy glaze, soft vertical fluting, and green leafy detail around the base, is a characteristic example of the naturalistic aesthetic that made McCoy pieces so enduringly popular.

Made by Nelson McCoy of the USA, circa 1930s, this vase features a sandy and green glazed ceramic body with soft vertical fluting running up the form and green leafy and berry detail applied around the base. The natural palette and Arts and Crafts-inspired form are characteristic of McCoy's output from this period, when the pottery was producing a wide range of decorative vases, planters, and jardinieres in naturalistic glazes and organic forms. McCoy pieces from the 1930s are actively collected by American art pottery enthusiasts, and the Berries and Leaves pattern is one of the more recognisable of the period's designs.
