Description

The rectangular form with rounded corners is less commonly encountered in Wedgwood's black jasperware range than the oval or round, and the slim proportions of this jewellery dish give it a particularly refined presence on a dressing table or desk.

Made by Wedgwood of Stoke-on-Trent, this dish features a matte black jasperware ground in a slim rectangular form with rounded corners and a raised white classical relief to the centre. The neoclassical figure decoration is applied with the precision that characterises Wedgwood's relief work, and the proportions of the dish, long and narrow with a shallow well, make it well suited to its intended function as a jewellery or trinket holder. The contrast between the deep matte black ground and the crisp white relief is at its most effective in this elongated format.
