Description
At 11 cm wide and 7.5 cm tall, this is the largest of the sage green jasperware trinket boxes in this collection, and the generous round form gives the classical chariot scene and garland border relief the space they need to read at their best.
Made by Wedgwood of Stoke-on-Trent, this large lidded trinket box features a soft sage green jasperware ground with a raised white classical chariot scene to the lid and a decorative garland border running around the body. The chariot subject, drawn from classical mythology, is one of the most celebrated in the Wedgwood neoclassical repertoire, and the combination of the chariot scene with the sage green ground and the generous round form makes this one of the more distinguished pieces in the jasperware trinket box range. Sage green jasperware is consistently harder to source than blue or black, and a piece of this scale in the sage green colourway is a particularly desirable find.
