Burleigh Ware Willow Blue and White Small Bowl

This Burleigh Ware small bowl carries the traditional Willow pattern in cobalt blue on a white ground. The Chinese-inspired landscape includes pagodas, a bridge, trees, figures and flying birds, surrounded by an elaborate floral and geometric border that gives the compact bowl plenty of decorative detail.

Made in Burslem, England, by Burleigh Ware, the trade name associated with Burgess and Leigh, this bowl carries a blue printed backstamp reading “Burleigh Ware”, “Willow”, “Burslem” and “England”. The mark confirms the maker, pattern and place of manufacture. The form, decoration and backstamp are consistent with vintage production from the early to mid-20th century.
