Description
Golden-brown speckling softens the tan glaze on this standing Cheval pony with its long textured mane.
A tan glazed ceramic pony figurine with golden-brown speckling, modelled standing with a rounded body and an open, smiling mouth. Applied spaghetti-style strands form the long cream mane, forelock and tail. Cheval Ceramics, South Africa. The tan body glaze carries golden-brown speckling rather than a sharply defined spotted pattern. The smooth rounded body contrasts with the applied cream strands of the mane and tail. Its open smiling mouth provides an additional comparison point with the pink comical standing pony in the same group. For comparison, the Joy China 4082 Glazed Terrier Dog Figurine provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
