Description
An open mouth and rounded belly give this standing pink Cheval pony its comical expression.
A pink glazed ceramic pony figurine in a standing pose, with an open mouth, rounded body and cream spaghetti-style mane, forelock and tail. Cheval Ceramics, South Africa. The cream textured mane contrasts with the warm pink body, while the open mouth gives the head an expressive profile. The rounded belly and short legs distinguish the figure from a naturalistic horse model. Side-by-side comparison with a reclining pony highlights the different treatment of stance and proportions. For comparison, the Joy China 4082 Glazed Terrier Dog Figurine provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
