Description

A green-spotted bow distinguishes this cream-and-brown Drostdy Ware dog from related bow-wearing figures.

A seated ceramic dog figurine with a glossy cream glaze, brown patches, oversized ears and a tilted head. A moulded cream bow is decorated with dark green spots, while painted details define the eyes and black nose.Identified as Drostdy Ware from Grahamstown, South Africa, matching the mould of a labelled and marked example. No maker’s mark is visible on this figurine’s photographed base. Brown patches on the body and ears distinguish this figure from the plain cream version. The cream bow carries small green spots, adding a second colour detail below the tilted head. The supplied attribution relies on comparison with a labelled mould-mate; no maker’s mark is recorded on this example’s photographed base. For comparison, the Joy China 4082 Glazed Terrier Dog Figurine provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
