Description
Delicate in form and vivid in decoration, this H&K Tunstall scalloped dish is a charming example of the Tunstall potteries' hand-painted decorative ware at its most refined — the fluted scalloped form giving the piece an elegance that sets it apart from the standard Tunstall tableware range.
H&K Tunstall was a Staffordshire pottery manufacturer based in Tunstall, one of the six towns of the Potteries district, producing a range of earthenware tableware and decorative pieces throughout the 20th century. The scalloped dish form, with its fluted edges and compact proportions, was a popular format for the Tunstall decorators, providing an ideal canvas for the colourful hand-painted fruit motifs in yellow, pink, green and purple tones that give this piece its immediate decorative appeal. The deep cobalt blue glaze and glossy finish are characteristic of the Tunstall range at its most confident. This example is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or damage noted.
