Description
Elegant in form and warmly decorated, this H&K Tunstall scalloped dish in the Viola pattern is a refined example of the Tunstall potteries' hand-painted decorative ware — the fluted scalloped form lending the piece a gentle, inviting character that is distinctly different from the bolder cobalt blue Tunstall pieces.
H&K Tunstall was a Staffordshire pottery manufacturer based in Tunstall, one of the six towns of the Potteries district, producing a range of earthenware tableware and decorative pieces throughout the 20th century. The Viola pattern, with its warm ochre tones and colourful hand-painted fruit motifs, is one of the more distinctive of the Tunstall ranges, offering a softer and more intimate palette than the deep cobalt blue pieces. The compact size and elegant scalloped form make this dish ideal for display in a cabinet, on a dresser, or as part of a curated ceramics grouping. This example is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or damage noted.
