Description
A hand-painted windmill landscape wraps around the cream body of this Lucia Ware decorative ewer marked D/3001.
The underside bears the impressed LUCIA WARE mark and the painted inscription HANDPAINTED D/3001. Lucia Ware is a range from Boksburg East Potteries in Boksburg, South Africa. The decoration follows a Dutch-inspired Delft style. The curved handle rises beside the slender neck and flared pouring lip. Blue landscape strokes sit alongside green, brown, yellow and mauve details on the pale ground. The Dutch-inspired decoration is a stylistic description, not an indication of Dutch manufacture, and D/3001 is retained as a painted code rather than a confirmed production date. For comparison, the Lucia Ware Hand-Painted Sailing Boat Ceramic Vase and the Lucia Ware Yellow Ceramic Miniature Pitcher Style 1303 provide related examples of form, decoration or maker within the store.
