Description
Cobalt geometric panels and iron-red flowers give this single tea saucer the recognisable colour of Royal Crown Derby Traditional Imari 2451. White reserves and generous gilt detailing bring contrast across the porcelain surface. It can stand alone in a cabinet or accompany a correctly matched cup among other tea and coffee table pieces.
The identification records a red Royal Crown Derby England backstamp, pattern number 2451 and a triangular date cipher read as 1917, as well as an impressed factory mark. These details support the maker, pattern and recorded manufacture year more closely than decorative appearance alone. Pattern 2451 was introduced earlier, so the pattern's original introduction date should not be confused with the date of this particular saucer. Its relatively broad tea-saucer size also distinguishes it from the smaller coffee saucer listed separately. The source grades this example Excellent and reports no chips or cracks. For more context on the decoration and identification, see the Journal guide to Imari-inspired ceramics. Compare the different decoration on the smaller coffee saucer in pattern 2451.
