Description
Two differently coloured dogs flank the central matchbox slot of this green Vermont ceramic holder.
A ceramic matchbox holder on a rectangular green glazed base, with an upright open-front holder between two seated dogs. One dog is tan with dark facial details; the other is cream with brown shading and dark ears. The central holder has a textured striking surface. The underside is impressed VERMONT. The rectangular base holds a short tan dog on one side and a taller cream-and-brown dog on the other. Their differing proportions give the functional holder a small figural grouping. The central open-front slot is the feature that identifies its purpose; the decoration does not establish a particular dog breed or exact year. For comparison, the Joy China 4082 Glazed Terrier Dog Figurine provides a related example in the store. The Journal’s South African Pottery Makers: A Collector's Guide to Local Ceramics gives further collector context.
