Royal Worcester produced this sparrow under model number 3236 as part of its long running series of naturalistic bird studies. The printed underside mark confirms the model name, the Bone China designation, the Royal Worcester name and the Made in England origin, so the maker and country of production are not in doubt. The matt glaze and restrained colouring are typical of the studio's later English bird figurines, which favour lifelike form over decorative brightness, and the moulded leaf and berry base grounds the bird in a believable garden setting.
